In the early morning on 6 February 2023, two powerful earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude shook southeast Türkiye and northern Syria resulting in thousands of casualties and injuries that levelled buildings and devastated communities.

The World Organization of the Scout Movement offers its heartfelt condolences to those impacted by the tragedy. The global Scouting community mourns those whose lives were lost as a result of the disaster and are committed to supporting the ongoing relief efforts.

“We stand in solidarity with our Scouting friends in Türkiye and Syria and are working closely with the National Scout Organization leadership in these countries to support the humanitarian response to the earthquake,” said Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

In the coming days and weeks, World Scouting and the World Scout Foundation will coordinate with National Scout Organizations in Türkiye and Syria, as well as across the European and Arab Scout Regions, to support the humanitarian response.
