Scouts unite for urgent disaster relief around the world

3 minutes

Scouts around the world have united in an extraordinary effort to support communities devastated by disasters and conflict. In response to the catastrophic floods and displacement in Central Europe, Sudan, and Bangladesh, World Scouting and the World Scout Foundation are supporting three appeals for urgent relief. Each appeal targets a specific region, ensuring that Scouts can deliver critical aid and long-term recovery support tailored to the unique needs of each affected community.

In Central Europe, Storm Boris has caused severe flooding across Austria, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, and Hungary. The destruction has left communities grappling with power outages, widespread evacuations, and heartbreaking losses, with at least 21 fatalities recorded. The damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure is immense, and recovery will be long and difficult. Join Scouts in Europe: Rebuilding Communities After Storm Boris to support Scouts in their efforts to rebuild homes and provide vital relief to impacted communities.

In Sudan, torrential rains and floods have affected nearly half a million people across 15 states. Ongoing conflict has worsened the situation, displacing over 143,000 people and destroying thousands of homes. Critical infrastructure has been severely damaged, leaving many without access to clean water, healthcare, and shelter. Support the Sudan Scouts in Action: Flood Relief and Resilience and help Scouts deliver life-saving aid to those in urgent need.

Flash floods in the northeastern and southeastern regions of Bangladesh have devastated essential infrastructure and displaced over 502,000 people. Donate to From Crisis to Stability: Scouts Bangladesh in Action to support Scouts who have been working tirelessly on the ground. While they continue to provide critical aid, additional support is urgently needed to help transition from emergency relief to long-term recovery for the most severely affected families.

Scouts in these regions are already leading on the ground, actively involved in relief efforts. They are distributing food, clean water, and medical kits, providing psychological support, and assisting with rebuilding homes. While their dedication remains strong, the scale of these disasters requires the strength of our global community to amplify their efforts.

This appeal will support volunteer mobilisation, ensuring that local Scout volunteers can coordinate and deliver swift and efficient relief. It will fund the provision of emergency supplies, including food, clean water, hygiene kits, and temporary shelters for displaced families. Mental health services will help communities cope with the trauma, while efforts to repair and rebuild homes, schools, and Scout centres will help restore a sense of normalcy to the affected areas.

Want to help Scouts with their efforts? Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate: Every contribution - no matter how small - will directly support the people and communities affected by the floods. Your donation will help provide essential supplies and prevent the outbreak of diseases.
  • Spread the word: Share the fundraising campaign with your friends, family, and networks. The more people who know, the greater our collective impact.
  • Advocate: Encourage your local Scout groups to join the cause. Together, we can amplify our efforts and reach even more people in need.
