Thank you, Chief Ambassador Bear Grylls!
Today, we are honoured to express our thanks and gratitude to Bear Grylls for his remarkable service as Chief Ambassador of World Scouting. Over the years, Bear has been an incredible champion for the power of Scouting to change lives and communities, sharing a message of hope, courage and resilience that has inspired millions of Scouts around the globe.
From the moment he took on the role in 2018, Bear became an active champion for some of World Scouting’s most impactful initiatives. His ambassadorship began at the United Nations headquarters with the launch of Scouts for SDGs, a moment that signalled our Movement’s commitment to mobilise young people in service of a better world. Today, Scouts have contributed nearly 3 billion hours of community service, advancing peace, sustainability, and local development.
Throughout his term, Bear represented World Scouting at major global events, including the 24th and 25th World Scout Jamborees in the United States and Korea, where he delivered messages of encouragement to more than 50,000 young participants from around the world. During the COVID‑19 pandemic, he helped keep Scouts connected and engaged by promoting JOTA‑JOTI, the world’s largest digital Scouting event. He also supported environmental advocacy efforts by joining World Scouting’s youth representatives at COP26 in Scotland, highlighting the vital role young people play in protecting our planet.
Bear used his global platform to thank adult volunteers for their service and to support fundraising for Scouting initiatives and emergency response efforts, including those related to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
During his time as Chief Ambassador, our Movement grew from 54 million to more than 60 million members, and saw the expansion or return of Scouting in countries including Afghanistan, Albania, Antigua and Barbuda, Congo, Mali, the Solomon Islands, and Vietnam. Bear also played a meaningful role in bringing our refreshed brand and renewed vision of Scouting to audiences around the world.
We thank Bear for his incredible commitment, leadership, and friendship to the Scout Movement, which has inspired Scouts everywhere to do their best and never give up!
