WOSM Statement on the situation in Afghanistan
WOSM is following with deep concern the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Our Asia-Pacific Support Centre has been in regular contact with our Member Organization, the Afghanistan National Scout Organization (ANSO). ANSO has been providing humanitarian relief support and assistance to displaced people as a consequence of the deteriorating security situation, in collaboration with other local non-governmental organisations. A crowdfunding effort, coordinated through the World Scout Bureau, is available on the Scout Donation Platform through which Scouts from around the world can contribute to ANSO’s efforts.
ANSO advised that while the situation remains very challenging and is changing rapidly, the locations from which Scouts are providing assistance to their local communities remain safe, although movement is restricted. ANSO is focused on distributing essential supplies for local communities.
WOSM continues to monitor the situation and remains in close contact with ANSO’s leadership. The thoughts and prayers of the Scout Movement around the world go out to all those affected by the security situation in Afghanistan.
