Brunei successfully hosts the very first ASEAN Rover Moot

Over three hundred Rover Scouts from seven countries gathered in Berakas, Brunei Darussalam from the 12thto the 17thof December 2018 for the 1stASEAN Rover Moot. Participating countries included host country Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

The moot was officially launched by the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Sultan Bolkiah is also the patron of Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam, while his son, Crown Prince Hanji Al-Muhtadee Billah is the Chief Scout.

 

The Rover Moot is an event for the senior branches and other young adult members of the different National Scout Organizations of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. It provides an opportunity for young adults in Scouting to meet together, with the objective of improving their international understanding as citizens of the world. During the moot, several specialised activities, community services and community development projects are conducted and organised. The Rover Scouts provide the much need manpower for these activities and projects.

 

Environmental-related activities were prioritised, with Rover Scouts planting 400 trees in Kampong Sungai Mau in Jalang Liang. Participants were divided into four groups, and each group was assigned to one a tribe in Temburong District, Tutong District, Belait District and in Brunei-Muara District.

 

When asked how he felt about the activities, Lim Wei Yung, chairperson of the APR Young Adult Members Group said that the moot was definitely a refreshing experience. “It was interesting to understand and experience Brunei’s culture, dances and music; it’s definitely an eye opener.”

 

“What’s more interesting about the whole thing is that I felt like we are allowed to choose which sub-camp to participate in. It seemed to be more customised, that we all have a choice where to go and which activity to attend. It’s definitely fulfilling,” he added further. 

 

The 1stASEAN Rover Moot was hosted by Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam, in partnership with the ASEAN Scout Association for Regional Co-operation.
