Scouting’s Sunrise at Kandersteg International Scout Centre

Kandersteg – August 1, 2007 – It was a moving moment, as more than 2,200 Scouts from 40 different countries rose their right hand to renew their promise at the lake “Oeschinen” in front of the so called “Fründenhorn” (in English: mountain of friends) in the Swiss Alps. This very special Scouting’s Sunrise celebration was part of the Kandersteg Jamboree “Kanderjam” which is taking place from July 27 to August 8 at the Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland.

The 1,800 participants of the Kanderjam were joined by some 400 Swiss Guides and Scouts. Together they met very early in the morning to walk to the venue of the celebration as the sun was rising. Arriving at the lake “Oeschinen” they enjoyed their breakfast surrounded by the Swiss Alps.
Exactly at 9 am (to be in line with the celebration on Brownsea) Thijs Stoffer, president of KISC and Anne Guyaz, member of the national board of the Swiss Guide and Scout Movement, shared their thoughts about Scouting’s birthday with Kanderjam participants, before everybody was renewing the Scout Promise in his/her own language. At the same time, hundreds of miles away some 40,000 Scouts did the same in the World Scout Jamboree, 50 kilometers northeast of London.
