#KidsTakeOver the Management of World Scouting on Children’s Day!

On World Children's Day, Scouts aged 10-15 years old from the Malaysian National Scout Organization reported for work at the World Scout Bureau today and took over some key leadership roles.

Sofea

Sofea, 10, took her seat at the Office of the Secretary General after a quick on-the-job briefing from the Secretary General, Ahmad Alhendawi. She was joined by other Scouts from her group who also took over some key positions at the World Scout Bureau. 'I think the job is sometimes easy and sometimes hard but I am willing to consider becoming a Secretary General one day', Sofia told the staff. She and her team of young Global Directors attended a meeting on dialogue with the Messengers of Peace team and colleagues from the Regional Support Centre in Manila.

After an introduction on the World Scout Bureau and a briefing of the day’s programme, the group reviewed the logistics arrangements for the upcoming Messengers of Peace Hero Award event. At mid-morning, they joined a SCRUM meeting called especially for them and introduced themselves to the Global Team. At the meeting, World Scout Bureau staff also introduced themselves, shared about their roles and found out more about the Scouts and their ‘mission’ for the day.

Xian Chern

Xian Chern, 11, who was the Global Director of Finance and Administration for the day, had a busy day learning about each staff member’s roles and responsibilities, and how to keep the books and money in order. Whereas Aliah, 12, who assumed the role of the Global Director of Organisational Development learned about the Scout Donation Platform and how Scouts could raise funds for their projects through the platform with the help of the Global Projects Director.

Xian Wern

Xian Wern, 15, got to experience what it is like to be the Global Director of Communications and External Relations for a day. She learned about the importance of keeping things in order and multitasking, and had a great time learning some graphic design tricks!

It was definitely an unforgettable World Children’s Day for the Scouts, being in the shoes of World Scout Bureau staff. Did you organise a #KidsTakeOver activity? Share it with us by posting your story on scout.org and on social media with the hashtag, #KidsTakeOver!
