World Scouting leaders from across the World Scout Movement representing 57 million Scouts will meet in Egypt to decide on the Scout Movement’s vision for the next decade.

The Conference is World Scouting’s highest governing body. Convening every three years, it is a vital platform for members from 174 countries to shape the Scout Movement worldwide. A new vision for the Scout Movement over the next decade will be among the proposals to be approved at the Conference. The new vision is expected to feature an increased focus on providing innovative, transformative learning experiences for more young people globally and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Egypt’s president supports the global event

At a press conference held in Cairo on 4 June, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sport of Egypt, announced the president’s patronage of the event and the government’s support to ensure worldwide Scouts representatives have a successful assembly.

“Egypt's hosting of the 43rd World Scout Conference in August 2024 comes from the belief of the Egyptian government and its people in the importance of the role played by the Scouting and Guiding Movement in preparing good citizens and sound national upbringing by instilling the spirit of volunteerism and community service, spreading the values of teamwork, and preserving the environment and planet Earth among them,” Dr. Sobhy said.

As World Scouting’s general assembly, the Conference is instrumental in setting the strategic direction for the largest educational youth movement. The Conference will elect new members to the World Scout Committee, recognise new countries that joined the World Scout Movement, adopt policies and select future host countries for major scouting events like the World Scout Jamboree, the World Scout Moot and the next host of the World Scout Conference.

Ahead of the highly anticipated United Nations (UN) Summit for the Future in September, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, will join the Conference and engage in intergenerational dialogue with Scout leaders and representatives of major youth organisations. The conference will also provide a platform for Scout organisations to exchange ideas, address challenges, collaborate on global issues, and foster new partnerships and alliances for future cooperation.
