Scouts for Morocco: United in Response to Earthquake Crisis

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that shook Morocco on September 8th, 2023, the Fédération Nationale du Scoutisme Marocain sprang into action, demonstrating remarkable agility and determination in its response efforts. The earthquake, measuring a powerful magnitude of 6.8, struck an isolated mountainous region south of Marrakesh, claiming over 2,100 lives and leaving widespread destruction in its wake.

 

In direct response to the earthquake, the Scouts for Morocco launched an emergency appeal through the Scout Donation Platform, with the aim of raising funds to support the mobilization of a specialized emergency team at the national level, comprising more than 2,000 dedicated volunteers. These volunteers, equipped with essential skills and resources, embarked on a mission to provide crucial support to affected communities.

Scouts of Morocco responded to the earthquake crisis with a multifaceted approach, prioritizing psychological support for children through specialized camps, aimed at fostering emotional resilience and well-being. The establishment of these camps provided essential services and moments of joy amidst adversity, led by experienced Scout leaders and experts. Additionally, they mobilized efforts to collect vital supplies, organized blood donation drives, and distributed "back to school packages" to ensure continuity of education.

Through the collective efforts of the Scouts of Morocco and the unwavering support of generous donors, the response to the earthquake crisis has been marked by resilience, solidarity, and hope.
