Youth Advisors to World Scout Committee elected in Korea

The participants of the 10th World Scout Youth Forum have marked a historic moment when electing the Youth Advisors to the World Scout Committee for the period 2008 to 2011. From the six elected Youth Advisors, four of which are young women. This is the first time that an election at the world level has resulted in the majority of positions being held by females, which demonstrates support for the Strategic Priotity of involving girls, boys, women and men in all levels of decision making in Scouting.

The six Youth Advisors to the World Scout Committee to serve for the period of 2008-2011 are:
Miss Karin Ahlbäck (Finland)
Mr. Jaemin Choi (Korea)
Mr. Kevin Li (Canada)
Miss Nadia Soledad Morrone (Argentina)
Miss Milena Pecarski (Serbia)
Miss Fernanda Cristina Santos Soares (Brazil)

These young leaders will also form part of the Planning Committee for the 11th World Scout Youth Forum in Brazil in 2011. From amongst themselves, the Youth Advisors elected Miss. Milena Pecarski from Serbia as Chairperson for the next event.

Making her first speech at the closing session of the Forum, Milena addressed the audience with the following words:

"Dear brothers and sisters in Scouting,

It is a pleasure to be here today in front of you, not only as a Youth Advisor elected during this Forum, but as the new chairperson of the 11th World Scout Youth Forum in 2011.

I really thank my fellow Youth Advisors who honoured me with their trust and support on this big responsibility. I do believe that any of the Youth Advisors elected here could be excellent for this position as well, and I can ensure that we will work together to make the next Forum a big success!

On behalf of all the Youth Advisors I would like to thank all of you as well, because you make possible this historical Forum here in Korea, this is the biggest World Scout Youth Forum ever! And as been a privilege to be present in Iksan, the Host Committee done an incredible job, congratulations to them too!

Finally, thanks to the Planning Committee of this Forum for all its effort on carried out this World Youth Event!

I would like to invite all of you to be in contact in the next years through ScoutPost, to let us know your ideas and suggestions for the next Forum, your experience is more than useful! I am sure that many of us will meet at future Scout events in our own regions or further afield.

Go back home and spread all the knowledge that you acquire during the last 4 days! Pass the message that 200 young people have joined together in Asia to make a difference, to follow a dream and to create a better world.
