Skills for Life

Scouting is a life experience. It is an educational journey that empowers young people with transferable skills, such as communications, conflict resolution, problem solving, and teamwork. As an inclusive, values-based Movement, Scouting strives to ensure that each young person benefits from structured growth starting with their very first engagement as a Scout.

We believe that young people can be key contributors in their communities and active global citizens who are driven by sustainable change and growth. Life skills acquired through Scouting enable them to be forward thinkers in a world that is constantly evolving.

Across Ages: A Scout’s Educational Journey

Scouting’s Youth Programme are built around developmental age sections that cater to the changing needs of young people as they grow and evolve as human beings.

Generally, Scouting programmes involve Scouts between the ages of five and 26. During these years, a Scout’s educational journey is based on six key areas of personal growth and development: social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional, and spiritual. All six areas also fit into the overarching themes that influence a young person’s cognitive, psychosocial, and physical development.

"Scouting has given my son his best friends for life, and the tools and skills to be a better person. He is able to set long-term goals and stick to them, he is highly responsible and autonomous, and has an entrepreneurial spirit. I’m confident that values such as integrity, humanity, leadership and fellowship that he has developed through Scouting will be of great use in his life.”
