JOA-JOTI 2024

JOTA-JOTI 2024 was an event to remember with a record-breaking 736,000 Scouts from around the world registering to join the world’s largest digital and radio Scout event. This year’s edition was bigger and more impactful than ever thanks to a new partnership with Accenture, which powered a new mobile-friendly registration platform that made signing up more streamlined, engaging, and accessible.

This year’s theme, “Scouts for a Greener World,” inspired a weekend of global connections, learning, and environmental action. Scouts from all around the world united to share ideas and take meaningful steps towards sustainability, showing that our Scouting values know no borders.

With participation from Scouts from 164 National Scout Organizations, JOTA-JOTI also offered countless opportunities for young people to explore diverse cultures and make new friends. Through video calls, chat rooms, and interactive sessions, Scouts connected and shared experiences. This fostered a truly powerful and unique sense of community, bringing young people together in support of a greener, more connected world.

Taking the spirit of JOTA-JOTI outdoors, “Hike the Planet” invited Scouts to hit the trails and log their kilometres for a greener planet. It was a huge success with over 6,000 Scouts from more than 80 countries participating. Together, we nearly doubled our goal of walking the circumference of the Earth! Scouts connected with nature, learnt about local biodiversity, and contributed to global efforts in environmental action - making “Hike the Planet” an inspiring example of this year’s sustainability theme.

A digital playground

With Accenture’s support, the Activity Hub became a vibrant digital playground filled with exciting challenges, games and interactive experiences. Scouts explored the innovation lab, fun zone, and celebration arena, with over 100 activities taking place along with 18 live webinars that welcomed 3,800 participants. Scouts engaged in everything from video calls and virtual games to hands-on challenges, creating memories to last a lifetime.

The live shows, hosted by our incredible hosts, Celeste and Andrew, were a highlight of JOTA-JOTI 2024. Across three broadcasts, over 35,000 viewers tuned in to see talents from around the world, play games, learn about our new initiatives, and listen to lively interviews with amazing guests. These shows gave Scouts a chance to come and celebrate Scouting in an unforgettable way.

In the virtual world, JOTA-JOTI’s Minecraft server brought over 1,000 Scouts who logged a collective 1,240 hours of gameplay. From a virtual triathlon to designing flower beds and tackling an orienteering course, Scouts explored, built, and connected in a space that encouraged creativity and sustainability. In a recycling challenge, Scouts used limited materials to build eco-friendly designs that showcased innovation and this year’s green theme.

Building on the successes of last year’s initiative, ScoutPass returned to offer a fun way for Scouts to track their digital achievements. This year, Scouts claimed over 65,000 JOTA-JOTI Challenge badges, celebrating their progress and shared accomplishments. ScoutPass has quickly become a favourite, adding an engaging new layer to the JOTA-JOTI experience.
