Cambodia eyes for stronger Scouting

30 April 2010, Phnom Penh – Heading for further development of Scouting in Cambodia, the National Association of Cambodian Scouts (NACS) continues to strengthen its capacity building as they organize its first National Strategic Planning Workshop from 29th April to 3 May 2010 at the National Stadium, located in Phnom Penh.

Gathering 40 participants from 24 provinces of Cambodia, the workshop was opened by NACS Chief Commissioner H.E. Mr Chey Chap who conveyed the gratitude on behalf of the Prime Minister H. E. Samdech Hun Sen who is the Honorary President of NACS and H.E. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister, for the support given by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Asia-Pacific Region.

NACS' timing in organizing strategic planning workshop is very timely for the sustainable growth of Scouting in the country. Last year, NACS organized its first Woodbadge course in March.

NACS Secretary General Mr. Lak Sam Ath, is directing the workshop while APR Director for Administration and Finance Mr S Prassanna Shrivastava from the regional office is the workshop facilitator.

Scouting in Cambodia underwent various phases of development and it was only in the late 1990s when consistent support from the Asia Pacific Region of WOSM sustained the revival of Scouting until it eventually qualified for world membership.

NACS became a full member of World Scouting family on 1st July 2008 and it is the newest member within the Asia-Pacific Region.
