Africa Scout Day celebrations 2010: Burundi
BUJUMBURA - The Africa Scout Day, celebrated each year on 13th March was also celebrated by the Scouts of Burundi. Officials of the Association des Scouts du Burundi (ASB), at national and district level, together with members of the Scout Groups of Bujumbura and university-based Rover Crews commemorated this day in a correctional facility in Mpimba with Scouts from the said facility, who are members of a group known as « Espoir » (Hope).
They held discussions on “Scouting in a correctional facility.” It was also an opportunity to raise awareness on the Africa Scout Day, through debates and presentations. Members of the prison-based Scout group demonstrated that they placed much importance on Scouting, as it helps them allay the feeling of loneliness while learning to serve and to show a sense of brotherhood in a world where there is often a lack of love and respect for one another.
The Africa Scout Day had a major impact on the prison population and prison authorities. They were all surprised by the brotherhood and solidarity that characterized the Scout family. Unfortunately, no photos were taken as it is strictly forbidden to take photos in a correctional facility in Burundi.
