Exciting Scouts of the World Award Project - Australians in Timor-Leste

In 2011the Australian Rovers were in Timor-Leste from the 4th of July to the 15th of July. The Timor-Leste (East Timor) Partnership Project 2011 was run by Rover Scouts from all around Australia. Much of this project was done with aid and assistance from the Rovers of the Solomon Island Project 2011 – this year is the 4th time that they have traveled to the Solomon islands from Canberra to do acts of service over there.
The 2011 Timor-Leste Partnership Project is a pilot program to create stronger bonds between Scouts Australia and Scouts Timor-Leste. The primary goal of this project consists of installing lavatory facilities into local government schools (using local contractors to support the local economy), to help better provide better educational facilities to the local school kids. The secondary goal of this project is to assist Scouts Timor-Leste in becoming WOSM-affiliated – which will mean that they will be recognised by Scouts around the world. For the participants who wish to, they are able to complete their own “Scouts of the World” project which is a project created from the Millennium Development Goals (set by the UN in 2000).
