"Lest We Forget" - Founder's Day message to Scouts in Africa

It is the 22nd February again and, all over the world, Scouts are celebrating Founder’s Day.

As the Regional Director for the World Scout Bureau, Africa Regional Office (WSB-ARO), I feel privileged to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Scouts, in particular from the Africa Region, on this memorable day.

Lest we forget, I also wish to take this opportunity to remind all of us what we are celebrating.

Obviously we are celebrating the God-given gift of our founder, Lord Baden-Powell who, after so many military successes, was saddened by the warlike attitude of the world and thought of Scouts as the agents of a better world.

Thus, it is appropriate to say that today is not only a celebration of the achievements of our founder and of Scouting, respectively as a universalist philanthropic person and the world largest youth movement, but also a remembrance of our “duty to God, duty to others, and duty to self”.

As we celebrate this day, I wish to reiterate the Founder’s last call, that is to try and leave this world a little better than we found it.
