Representatives of European and Eurasian regions of WOSM meet in Ukraine

WOSM leaders Mr. Mario Diaz Martinez, Vice-Chairman of the World Scout Committee, Mr. Luc Panissod, Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Mr. Bagrat Yesayan, Chairman of the Eurasia Regional Scout Committee, Mr. Craig Turpie, Chairman of the Europe Regional Scout Committee, and Mr. David Mckee, World Scout Bureau - Regional Director,participated in this meeting. More than 20 delegates of National Scout Organizations from Poland, Romania, Italy, France, Great Britain, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Lithuania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova, Russia, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, and Tadzhikistan also were convened to the Capital of Ukraine. Ukrainian delegation on this conference was represented by Bohdan Havrylyshyn, member of the National Council of National Organization of Scouts of Ukraine.
Before the meeting on Thursday, April 23, Mr. Luc Panissod, Mr. Mario Diaz Martinez, and Mr. Bagrat Yesayan interviewed candidates who had applied to the position of Regional Director of the World Scout bureau-Eurasia Regional Office and had been chosen earlier – Irakli Todua (Georgia), Valeriy Tantsyura (Ukraine), Anatoliy Yermolin (Russia), Yuriy Emilian (Moldova) and Levko Zakharchyshyn (Ukraine). The name of the new Eurasia Regional Director will be announced approximately in the middle of May.
On Friday, April 24, a meeting of the Eurasia Regional Scout Committee was held with participants from the National Scout Organizations of the Eurasian Region of WOSM from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tadzhikistan, and Azerbaijan was held. Mr. Luc Panissod delivered a speech to the Committee. Acting Regional Director, Aleksandr Bondar also addressed participants of the meeting to express thanks and gratitude for their cooperation and support.
The conference itself took place, from the 25-26th of April. Delegates from every National Organization from the European and Eurasian Regions of WOSM presented their countries and responded to questions. Later in the working groups they discussed issues of cooperation among National Scout Organizations.
A very strong desire to improve collaboration between the two regions was declared during the conference, and, as a result, Mr. Bagrat Yesayan and Mr. Craig Turpie signed a memorandum.
Foreign guests found the Ukrainian Scout Movement really interesting, lots of them visited this country for the first time. Ukrainian mass media also started to pay more attention to domestic scout movement. A Journalist of one of the leading magazines «Ukrayins’kyj Tyzhden’» («Ukrainian Week») conducted an interview with Mr. Luc Panissod. Publications about Scouting are also expected in other Ukrainian mass media.
