Today we face all sorts of environmental problems, from global warming, destruction of the ozone layer and polluted rivers, to loss of biodiversity and piles of waste. Fortunately, however, there are products and services that makes a positive difference and actively help to inflict less damage in nature.

Since 1992, the "Flower" has become a European-wide symbol to help European consumers distinguish greener, more environmentally friendly products and services.

Kandersteg International Scout Centre works hard on being a leading scout centre in enviornmental issues since its beginnings. Our Environmental Policy sets our mission and methods regarding reaching this goal. A completely revised Environmental Poliy and a 5 year action plan will be published in January 2009. The Environmental Improvement Team within the Centre is working along strict ecological and performance criteria to follow our procedures in this topic.

The first ever Scouts of the World Discovery in Ireland took place in October 2008, gathering 21 enthusiastic Venture Scouts and young leaders from across 11 Scout Counties and 4 Scout Provinces to the Scout Den & Museum of the 37th Cork (Togher) in Cork City.

Scouting Ireland's Venture Scout and International teams are carrying out this pilot to investigate how best to integrate the Scouts of the World Award programme into national programme. It also allows the assocation to put in place the necessary resources to facilitate young people from around the country in applying for the award.

Muy queridos amigos y amigas,

Nos complace mucho enviarles un fraternal saludo anticipándonos a la celebración del Día Internacional del Voluntario. La Organización de las Naciones Unidas instituyó el 5 de diciembre de cada año para la celebración del voluntariado en todo el mundo.

El Movimiento Scout Mundial también se une a esta celebración, siendo una ocasión muy especial para que reconozcamos a los miles de voluntarios que trabajan en nuestras asociaciones scouts. Nuestros dirigentes son el recurso más importante con que cuenta el Movimiento para cumplir su Misión.

Durante el mes de octubre, el territorio hondureño fue azotado por un par de tormentas tropicales que azotaron gran parte del país. La Asociación de Scouts de Honduras (ASH) desplegó en forma inmediata operaciones de ayuda humanitaria para las víctimas, en coordinación con la Comisión Permanente de Contingencias (COPECO).
