WOSM unveils new 2020-2021 plan to grow stronger together
Scouting around the world is experiencing an unprecedented challenge and heightened uncertainty caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Today, more than ever, we need to work together in supporting the continued growth of Scouting to engage more young people and emerge from this moment as a stronger Movement.
In light of the changing realities facing NSOs in the post-COVID-19 context, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has released a one-year strategic plan initiated by the World Scout Committee to bridge the period between the end of the 2017-2020 Triennium and the upcoming 42nd World Scout Conference.
WOSM’s plan for 2020-2021, entitled Growing Stronger Together, centres around five key emerging priorities aimed at supporting NSOs and World Scouting to adapt to the new reality. The plan builds on the outcomes of the 2017-2020 Triennial Plan, continues our commitment to growth, and lays a stronger foundation for the next Triennium, while working towards achieving Vision 2023.
The key priorities outlined in the plan are to support membership retention, assist NSOs in their new financial reality, strengthen Scouting’s impact in communities worldwide, connect the Movement together, and continue core operations with a focus on long-term sustainability.
“We have been overwhelmed by the inspiring stories of how Scouting has reacted during the global health pandemic, putting enormous effort into supporting local communities and adapting the delivery of Scouting so our programmes could continue to be a safe space for young people to develop as active citizens,” said Craig Turpie, Chairperson of the World Scout Committee
“National Scout Organizations have shown great courage, innovation and resilience to keep our Movement active and relevant during these challenging times,” said Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of WOSM. “This will continue to be a long journey ahead and our plan comes to help pave the way to recovery. We believe that Scouting will emerge a much stronger Movement.”
The full details of WOSM’s plan will be presented to NSO leadership with time for feedback and questions during the closing session of the World Scout Academy which is scheduled to take place on 15 August 2020.
