The King of Sweden, honorary chairman of the World Scout Foundation, received a contribution of USD3 million from Prince Faisal, Saudi Arabia’s minister of education on behalf of King Abdullah.

The gift was presented in May 2009 in Boston, in the United States, at a fund raising event organized by the Foundation in conjunction with the Volvo Ocean Race. This brings the Kingdom’s contributions to the Foundation to more than US$7 million.

For several years King Carl Gustaf has worked closely with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah, inspiring the creation of the worldwide Gifts for Peace programme. It reached its peak during Scouting’s Centenary celebrations in 2007. More than 10 million Scouts in 110 countries carried out work to build peace in their local communities. It has been the largest and most successful programme ever undertaken by Scouts worldwide.

“This new gift will help us continue to support Scouting and the work Scouts are doing to help make this a better world,” said Lars Kolind, Chairman of the World Scout Foundation. “We express our deep appreciation to His Majesty for this gift, and to leaders in the Saudi Arabia Scout Association, and our own Board members including His Majesty the King of Sweden for their work to earn the respect for continued support HM King Abdullah, and other leaders in the region.”
