All eyes on Botswana: BSA embarks on preparations for the Regional Conference

In the run-up to the 2009 Regional Scout Conference, the Botswana Scouts Association (BSA) held a workshop on Friday the 8th February 2008, at Aedume Scout Training Centre. The workshop was attended by 25 participants from different organizations and stakeholders.

The Objectives of the workshop were as follows:

  • To kick-start the preparations for the Africa Scout Conference and Youth Forum that will be hosted by Botswana Scouts Association in September 2009.
  • To constitute committees that will prepare for the forth coming Youth Forum and Conference.
  • To consult and sensitize the stakeholders about the forth coming conference and Youth Forum.
  • To consult relevant stakeholders for professional guidance.

The following committees were constituted:-

  • conference preparatory committee
  • organizing committee
  • fundraising committee
  • technical committee

1. Conference Preparatory Committee

Chaired by the Chief Commissioner. Committee members are representatives from different stakeholders, chairpersons of different sub-committees, executive commissioner and conference director.

2. Organizing Committee

Chaired by the International Commissioner. Committee members are members of the National Executive Committee, scout leaders, district scout representatives and the executive commissioner.

3. Fundraising committee

Chaired by any of the following: Scout member, non-scout member or professionals from sub-committees. Committee members are finance commissioner, executive commissioner,
representatives from Botswana Scouts Association Management Committee,
chairpersons of different sub-committees, scout leaders, NEC members and non-scouts.

4. Technical Committee

Chaired by the conference director. Committee members: administrator, representatives from relevant stakeholders, representatives from BSA management committee, chairpersons of different sub-committees and executive commissioner.

A good start...

According to a progress report by BSA, the workshop was a success because there were representatives from at least 5 different stakeholders, i.e. Tourism Board Department, 5M Consultancy, Immigration Department, Botswana Network of Aids Service Organizations (BONASO), Junior Chamber International.

Another meeting is scheduled for the 14th March 2008, to get feed back and progress reports from the newly formed committees.
