The message of the President of Romania for the Centenary of Scouting
I salute the Scouts of Romania and Scouts from all over the world on the special occasion of celebrating 100 years of Scouting.
100 years ago, in England, a group of young people were initiating a new educational method. And only a few years later, Scouting was introduced to young Romanians, setting the basis of one of the largest youth movements in Romania.
Through combining the physical exercises with the spiritual exercise of collectively assuming moral values, Scouting still offers the young people of today an example of teamwork which is beneficial to the whole of society.
Romania needs the involvement of young people in initiatives with a non-formal educational role, like Scouting. The Scouts enjoy the patronage of the President of Romania because through their activity, they achieve this goal.
I congratulate you on your choice to be part of the great family that is Scouting as it moves forward into a new century.
Happy Birthday!
Traian Băsescu
The President of Romania
