Scouting and Football in the South Pacific
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and the Council of the South Pacific Scout Associations (CSPSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to mutually recognise each other and work together in educating and involving the young people in the South Pacific.
The event was held on 4th October 2008 at the OFC headquarters in Auckland and was attended by officials from both organisations including OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas and CSPSA International Commissioner of French Polynesia Noelline Parker.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covers the need to encourage the young people of Oceania to be more active in society. OFC and CSPSA are both committed to work together to achieve this development among young people in the region.
At the signing ceremony OFC was represented by President Reynald Temarii and Chairman Iteni Helu for CSPSA who said that the agreement will go a long way.
“The offer of OFC, through their expertise and funds will dearly help us to encourage our members – both boys and girls – to learn through extra activities, and this will help them dearly in later life,” Helu said.
OFC President Reynald Temarii said the MoU was an important cooperation agreement and would benefit the region.
“OFC is dedicated to developing youth throughout our region and using football as a tool to accomplish this. The partnership between OFC and CSPSA is important for the opportunities it will provide to children in our region and I am excited about seeing our relationship develop.”
There are 11 National Scout Organisations (NSO) in the Pacific including Solomon Islands, PNG, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, Polynesia, Cook Islands, Samoa, Kiribati and Tuvalu.
