"Scouts Guyana" held National Environmental Workshop for Cub Scouts

An environmental workshop was held over the weekend, October 31st to November 1st, 2009, which targeted the Cub Section (7-11yrs. Old). Twenty-three (23) Cub Scouts participated in this workshop for which nine (9) Cub Packs were represented.

Participants were placed in groups at the beginning of the workshop for which they each selected the following wildlife species as group names: Jaguars, Giant River Turtles, Macaws and Manatees.

Over the weekend, participants learnt about food chains & webs, ozone depletion and climate change. Cubs also learnt a lot about Guyana’s rich biodiversity by paying a visit to the Guyana Zoo. A special talk was also given by the Guyana’s Zoo’s Nature School Educator on Reptiles.

Cub Scouts fully enjoyed the workshop and were eager to return to their Packs to share the knowledge gained and plan/participate in more activities that would contribute to protecting their environment.
