Position Concept/Mission:
As a senior staff member, work with staff and volunteer colleagues to:
- Contribute to the strategic thinking and planning of the Africa Scout Region
- Manage the delivery of tailored support to National Scout Organizations (NSOs) in implementing WOSM policies in the areas of Youth Programme and Adult Support across the Africa Scout Region
- Provide support to and work with related committees in building capacities of NSOs towards making Scouting attractive and accessible to more young people and, thus, enabling it to grow.
- Maintain documentation, establish baselines, prepare regular updates, evaluate the results and share findings on the implementation of WOSM Youth Programme and Adult Support policies in the Africa Scout Region
Main tasks:
In consultation with the Regional Director:
- Coordinate ARO Educational Methods Department to provide support to the development and implementation Youth Programme and Adult Resources in NSOs.
- Monitor trends in youth work and volunteering regionally and globally and support African NSOs to respond accordingly, in line with WOSM policies
- Provide administrative support to the Africa Regional Education Methods Sub-Committees
- Develop and maintain a network of professionals and volunteers that supports the development and delivery of quality Educational Methods in NSOs
- Support African NSOs that have been chosen to host international Scout events to develop and deliver programmes of high quality
- Coordinate the participation of African Scouts in international Scout events
- Represent Scouting at agreed forums and meetings
- Carry out such other tasks as agreed with and by the Regional Director
Qualifications and Profile:
- Post-graduate degree in education or equivalent professional experience
- Age 35 or above at the time of recruitment
- At least 5-year experience in similar positions
- Thorough knowledge of WOSM policies and commitment to the fundamental principles of Scouting
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and French. Additional language skills will be an advantage.
- Ability and proven experience in devising, reviewing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating youth programmes and adult support, and ability to manage large scale projects
- Proven records of research and training abilities, including ability to devise training tools and to make presentations
- Ability to write reports, recommendations and policies in an understandable way to varying constituencies
- Effective leadership skills, including ability to lead and motivate young people and teams of professionals and volunteers
- Abilities to use the Microsoft Office suite of functions
- Ability to maintain records effectively
- Dynamic, trustworthy, open-minded, with social and cultural understanding
- Understanding of regional situation and ability to work and cooperate within an international and multi-cultural framework
- Self-motivated and ability to manage a diverse workload
- Capable, as a Scout professional, to identify with young people and to work with Scout volunteers at national, regional and world levels
- Adaptable to different working conditions
- Available to travel throughout Sub-Sahara Africa and worldwide
- A good moral character, with a good sense of humour, team spirit and stress control
Compensation:
Commensurable with experience
