Clean Up the World
Clean Up the World is one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has been an Ally with Clean Up the World since 2008.
Held in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), an estimated 35 million volunteers from 120 countries are now taking part annually, including many National Scout Organizations (NSOs).

Participants in Clean Up the World organise and carry out activities and longer-term environmental projects throughout the year however the campaign culminates with a special focus on the Clean Up the World Weekend September 14-16, 2012. The theme for this year's Campaign is "Our Place...Our Planet...Our Responsibility". In 2012, Clean Up the World asks NSOs and Scout Groups to take action together, get back to basics and care for nature. Nature makes up a large part of the world we live in, from the air we breathe, to the water we drink, to the parks we play in. NSOs can undertake activities such as waste reduction, waste education, tree planting, and water conservation or other environmental initiatives that will inspire others to care for nature. In the Clean up the World Report for 2009, WOSM receives recognition for its support to Clean up the World (CUW). CUW works in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and in its Global Activity Report, launched to support World Environment Day on 5 June, WOSM is recognised as a key 'Ally'. Scout activities are highlighted in the report. Activities ranged from cleaning up small villages to national clean up events. Across many regions, communities also implemented recycling programmes, energy conservation, tree planting and awareness raising activities.
Clean Up the World and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) are celebrating the second year of their Ally relationship in 2009 by working together under the banner of “Communities uniting to Combat Climate Change”.
Clean Up the World and WOSM are proof in point that partnerships such as their Ally Relationship can bring about tangible improvements in the environment, create opportunities to connect with others and have fun in the process. As each of the organisations works in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, their individual missions are strengthened through this Alliance.

Since the beginning of the Clean Up the World campaign 15 years ago, Scouts have been actively getting out in their local communities and cleaning up their environment. This has included collecting many bags of litter, conducting educational campaigns, tree planting and other environmental projects. The 3rd weekend in September is celebrated as the Clean Up the World Weekend during which a wide variety of environmental activities are undertaken by millions of volunteers around the globe, though activities are conducted year round, depending on the local needs.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement and Clean Up the World are pleased to share with you the 2008 Clean Up the World Activity Report launched today, the 5th of June, in line with World Environment Day. Scouts feature heavily in this report which shows the active participation from Scouts throughout the world.
The Allies Partnership of 2008 between WOSM and Clean Up the World has helped to showcase some of the local level environmental activities that Scouts have been involved in since the inception of the Clean Up the World campaign over the past 16 years and other Scout groups that have joined for the first time last year.

Scouts have been involved with Clean Up the World every year since its inception.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has partnered with Clean Up the World as an Ally. WOSM will be promoting involvement in the Clean Up the World campaign to its National Scout Organizations (NSOs) and celebrating the achievements of their local Scout Groups.
