South African Scouts take part in Volvo Ocean Race

CAPE TOWN - On 8 November 2008 more than 600 young Scouts spent the day at the Volvo Ocean Race Village at the Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, on invitation by Volvo. Thanks to this activity, the Scouts not only got to enjoy the world's most exciting sailing event, but also got to learn more about how to protect the environment.

The Scouts had an opportunity to learn about Volvo’s contribution to reducing the CO2 emissions. They also participated in a number of environmental activities that are part of World Scout Environmental Programme, such as a Solar Cooker and understanding our Carbon Footprint.

The South African Scout Association is committed to contributing to protecting the environment and has developed a Climate Change Programme with the assistance of Scouts Canada and the Delphi Corporation.
