For Rovers, by Rovers – ‘Agora’ opens up to the other Regions in 2012
From 17-22 April 2012, the former European Rover Scout gathering ‘Agora’ goes global by extending participation to Rovers from all other Scout Regions of WOSM. The 1st Inter-Regional Agora will be held at the picturesque Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland.
The educational programme for the Agora event uses the Scout Method to reach the educational objectives for the Rover age section with a special emphasis on youth empowerment. What makes an Agora special is that it is an event run for Rover Scouts, by Rover Scouts.
The theme of the inaugural Inter-Regional Agora is ‘Youth Participation’, which is central to the Youth Programme offered in Scouting to all age sections. Scouting is one of the few youth organisations which focuses on child-centered and youth-centered development and has been doing this successfully for over one hundred years now. The programme of activities offered by the Rover Age Section in Scouting supports young adults to undertake their personal development helping their transition from adolescence to adulthood.
Rover Scouts Ciara (Ireland), Emil (Denmark), Niels (Netherland) and Vincent (France) who form the planning team for Agora 2012 are very excited about the prospects of extending the event to the other Regions and are eagerly waiting to welcome Rover Scouts from all over the World. They promise that this year’s event will be an excellent experience, filled with adventure, dialogue, discussions, sharing and activities. They promise that Agora will create new motivation and direction in the Scout life of the Rovers participating in the event.
National Scout Organizations and Rover Scouts interested to participate in this event can find more information on the Agora website and for further clarifications the planning team is reachable at agora(at)scout(dot)org. The deadline for applications is 16 February 2012.
