Geneva, February 20th 2009 – The members of the World Scout Bureau working in Geneva gathered this afternoon with Luc Panissod, Acting Secretary General, for a celebration of Founder's Day, two days early. A way for them to take a break, at the end of the week, inspired by the memory of he who said “First I had an idea. Then I saw an ideal. Now we have a Movement, and if some of you don't watch out we shall end up with just an organization”.

The 2nd Edition of Scout.Boom.Comm which contains updated information and new chapters is now available online for download. This new edition, which is available in English, French and Spanish, contains Communications Strategy recommendations proposed by the participants of the six Regional Communications Forums held between November 2006 and April 2008, and includes detailed information on the World Scouting Brand which was launched in late 2006.
Scout.Boom.Comm is a methodological tool to help leaders understand all the stages involved in implementing a branding strategy for the Scout Movement. It presents the concepts that are essential to understanding Scouting’s identity and the image that it reflects. It seeks to explain the link between image, key messages, Scout practices, and individual and collective behaviour.
One simple act. One huge message.
On March 27th at 8.30pm millions of people, 1000s of cities, globally famous monuments...and many Scouts... will all switch off their lights for just 1 hour in a symbolic show of support for our one and only planet.
All Scouts have an opportunity to be part of this global initiative by turning off their lights and taking part in activities which demonstrate their concern for global warming. You can be involved as an individual, with your family and friends, as a Scout Group or as part of your local community.
Today we face all sorts of environmental problems, from global warming, destruction of the ozone layer and polluted rivers, to loss of biodiversity and piles of waste. Fortunately, however, there are products and services that makes a positive difference and actively help to inflict less damage in nature.
Since 1992, the "Flower" has become a European-wide symbol to help European consumers distinguish greener, more environmentally friendly products and services.
Kandersteg International Scout Centre works hard on being a leading scout centre in enviornmental issues since its beginnings. Our Environmental Policy sets our mission and methods regarding reaching this goal. A completely revised Environmental Poliy and a 5 year action plan will be published in January 2009. The Environmental Improvement Team within the Centre is working along strict ecological and performance criteria to follow our procedures in this topic.
