“Cento ore per Cento anni – Hundred Hours for Hundred Years”
CNGEI (Corpo Nazionale Giovani Esploratori ed Esploratrici Italiani – Italian Open Scouting and Guiding) celebrated the Centenary of Scouting in Rome, from 6th to 9th September.
The camp was organized in one of the biggest park of the city, and around 1150 members of the organization, from cub scouts to old leaders, joined this unique meeting. CNGEI intended to celebrate 100 years of Scouting through 100 hours of activities which involved both scouts and citizens of Rome.
All the participants were asked to renew their commitment on values as democracy, participation, solidarity, peace, voluntary service, respect, protection of the environment and the human rights.
The mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, took part to the open ceremony and he thanked the scouting and underlined as it is necessary the action of our movement in the present society. And regarding to this, it was organized a convention about “ The Educative Role of Scouting within the Today’s Society”, which was enriched by the participation of Heather Roy, Regional Director of Europe Region of WAGGGS, and Mihajlo Atanackovic, Hajde Project Officer, at the World Bureau of WOSM.
Furthermore, it was was organized a gala at historical palace Doria Pamphjli in the center of Rome, to promote a new international project, “The Penchum Xalat Project”, which aims to help the Scout Organisation of Senegal, Eclaireurs du Sénégal, according to the principle that the youth education and training are the best kind of international help.
The joy of be part of the great game of Scouting and Guiding was celebrated with a huge music concert of the Italian band Train de vie. And the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood was symbolized by the presence of delegations from Malta, Greece, Portugal, Latvia, Belgium and United Kingdom.
