Ugandans and Kenyans hold a training for trainers forum

The initiative 'Scouting for Solutions' (SFS) conducted a training for trainers forum at the Busia Agricultural Training Centre (Kenya) from 15th to 26th June 2008. 45 trainers from Uganda and 28 from Kenya attended the workshop. 15 facilitators led the discussions.

Topics covered include among others :

  • Principles underlying Behaviour Change Communication,
  • Factual and experiential knowledge on HIV and AIDS,
  • Stigma reduction,
  • Provision of care and support,
  • Basic Monitoring and Evaluation skills,
  • Basic Principles of Counselling

In the framework of the implementation of this SFS project, it is expected that the participants will be able to conduct similar training workshops for Scout Leaders in their respective NSOs.

PATH (Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health) is working with Kenya Scouts Association and Uganda Scouts Association in implementing the SFS Project. The latter targets an estimated 325,000 boys and girls aged 12-15 years with intensive and repeated messages for positive behavior formation and behaviour change for healthy living.

The initiative is funded by the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through USAID. The lead facilitators for this training programme came from PATH. At the end of the training, participants were issued with certificates of merit.
