Scouts in Ghana pledge to fight against climate change
In accordance with the resolution on Climate Change passed during the 4th Africa Youth Forum in Kigali, Rwanda in 2007, Nikitta Dede Adjirakor, the Secretary of the Africa Scout Youth Forum organized a three day workshop in camp for the youth in Ghana from the 28th - 30th of April, 2008 at the National Scout Training Centre. Twenty two Scouts from various regions of the country attended the event.
This was with the tremendous support of the Ghana Scout Association Headquarters and the Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A) in Ghana. The camp's main objectives were:
1.To train the Scouts on the issue of Climate Change.
2.To task them to be agents of change on the theme in their various regions.
They were trained on topics such as water conservation; food security and Climate Change and its impact on the Ghanaian Economy; Climate Change and its impact on women and children and health. The Scouts held lively discussions with the resource persons on the various topics. They followed this up with patrol discussions and presentations. The Scouts represented the knowledge they acquired through songs, skits and drawings.
On the last day, against the backdrop of the information they had acquired, the Scouts brainstormed and came up with ideas on what the Ghana Scout Association could do to help in the fight against Climate Change. They finally planted moringa seedlings in order to signify their commitment to the fight against Climate Change.
