Alcoa Foundation and World Scouting
Contacts and joint projects between Scouts and Alcoa (Foundation) representatives go way back. The aluminium industry at large has been an active supporter of the great work of Scout teams around the world. An excellent example of this structural relationship is the contribution of the German aluminium industry, represented by the German Aluminium Association (GDA), to the 2005 World Youth Day in Germany.
Several joint activities and discussions between Industry representatives and Scouts, formed the basis for an Alcoa Foundation supported project with the World Scout Movement on sustainability.
Based on a comprehensive proposal and the recommendation of the European Alcoa Foundation team members, the Alcoa Foundation awarded the World Organisation of the Scout Movement a two-year $ 205,000 grant in late 2006. With this funding and involvement of the team members, World Scouting will develop a sustainability project that will be rolled out in five European countries: Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland and the UK. The roll out will be done through the National Scout Organizations in close cooperation with local Alcoa plants.
