Scouts lend ShelterBox a helpful hand in Brazil

Scouts from three different Brazilian states travelled great distances to assist a ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) in setting up camps, providing emergency shelter to families made homeless by recent floods and mudslides in eastern Brazil.
For the third time in two years, Brazilian scouts were prepared to help ShelterBox deliver aid to displaced people in need of shelter, even if it meant travelling long distances through the night. Thirty scouts from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais joined forces with the SRT and local volunteers to help put up ShelterBox tents in the devastated areas of Japamapará and Além Paraíba. In two swelteringly hot days, tents became homes for around 70 families.

On the past october 22 th , José Adolfo López Sampsom Félix resigned as Chief Scout of Mexico so to suit his interests, that day the National Board appointed Ana Lorena Gudiño Valdez as the new Chief Scout of Mexico, she is the first woman in the Scout Movement in Mexico to hold this position.

The Guides and Scouts Association is declared Meritorious Institution in Costa Rica

Last Thursday 1st September, the Costa Rican government declared the Guides and Scouts Association a Meritorious Institution. This is the highest governmental distinction that can be given to an Institution. The Costa Rican congress based its decision on all the social labour Guides and Scouts Association has done to educate children and teenagers, teaching them the value of life, of life outdoors and on services rendered to the community.

For the Guides and Scouts Association of Costa Rica, this achievement represents a big support from the Costa Rican state, and a compromise to keep working for the children and the youth of our country.

Before the World Scout Jamborre I attended the 14th International Youth Gathering for Cultural Exchange, here in Egypt, as a member of WOSM I think this kind of event, for rovers, it's a great opportunity to hear our root level members, and the results are amazing, a lot of opportunities to share and learn, a really nice agenda to empowering young adults and create a network focusing in a culture for peace. And of course, a country as Egypt, by itself is amazing and fascinating!

A new Chief Scout for Canada

On April 8th 2011, as the 20th Chief Scout of Canada, the General Governor of Canada expressed his commitment to work for the benefit of the Scout Movement and the “Association des Scouts du Canada”, in the presence of Mr. Jean-François Champagne, President of the Association and Mr. Robert Nowlan, National Commissioner and head of the Association.

As Chief Scout of Canada, he has accepted to preside the national decorations ceremonies, which recognise Scouts that have distinguished themselves through unparalleled projects or though their exemplary career.

Scouts get 12 computers from Scotiabank

Scotiabank, through its Brighter Future Programme, has donated 12 computers to the Trinidad & Tobago Scouts Association. The presentation took place on the 10th of February at the association’s headquarters, St Ann’s.

The bank’s public and corporate affairs manager, Adrian Raymond, said Scotiabank recognised the importance of technology in engaging youths and was happy and honoured to perform the bank’s corporate social responsibility by assisting the Scouts Association with computers.

Scouts of Paraguay, Building Citizenship

On November 19th, in the National Congress of Paraguay, was held the conference: "Scouts, building citizenship”, which had as its keynote speaker Hector Carrer from the World Scout Bureau - Interamerican Region.

This activity was sponsored by the National Congress through the Chamber of Deputies together with the legislative office of Congressman Dr. Dionisio Ortega, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Culture and Religion. The conference was part of celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of Scout Association of Paraguay.

XVI Central America Scout Summit

During 22nd and October 23 was held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, the XVI Central America Scout Summit, which brought together 21 scout leaders from Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama and the host country Honduras. Also some young people from Youth Networks from El Salvador and Honduras participated very actively in the meeting.

First online course for developers of Youth Programme

The World Scout Bureau, Interamerican Region, in partnership with Scouts of Argentina has successfully completed the first on-line course for Designers and Developers of Youth Programme of the Region. The course provided almost entirely through virtual platform developed for this purpose, culminated on 9, 10 and 11 October with a get-together of the students, all members of the National Team of Scouts de Argentina.
