The first day of July marks the most important day for Scouts in Thailand as Scouting in this country turns 98 this year.

First International Rover Net Moot

Oman Scouts & Guides Association are pleased to invite all Rovers, Scouts, Guides and Leaders from all around the world to participate in one of the activities taking place during the 18th Arab Rover Moot.

The 12 August 2009 at 12:00, participants of the Arab Rover Moot Camp in Sultanate of Oman will be able to connect and communicate during 42 hours with people worldwide through the use of Internet technologies, such as MIRC & teamspeak.

Kenya's Vice President visited the World Scout Bureau

The World Scout Bureau was honored to receive a visit from Hon. Vice President Steven Kalonzo Musyoka of Kenya on the 17th of June 2009. Vice President Musyoka is the Chief Commissioner of the Kenya Scout Association and was attending some meetings in Geneva taking advantage of this auspicious occasion the World Scout Bureau invited him to visit World Scouting headquarters in Geneva.

Scouts from Lalitpur district Scout headquarters, headed by Nepal Scouts Commissioner Shree Ram Lamichhane, organized a blood donation campaign on 15th June 2009 at the central area of Lalitpur to help hospitals in Katmandu, Nepal, that are facing blood shortage.

Inspirational Mexican Environment Project Wins Volvo Adventure 2009

A team of Mexican children and youth have been recognised for their inspirational project that has helped to protect a local wetland, engage children in environmental education and develop a sustainable aquaculture business to help pay for their ongoing education. HUNAB team from the Yukatan coast of Mexico were selected out of the top 10 Finalists for the Volvo Adventure 2009 US$10,000 first prize with the UK’s Isle of Man team in second and India in third.

Scouts from Brazil were also amongst the top 10 teams of 13 to 16 year olds selected from over 400 entries from 56 countries to go to Gothenburg, Sweden for the Volvo Adventure Final where the teams share their projects, engage in workshops on the environment and explore Swedish culture.

Mongolia starts second Ticket to Life Scout Troop

Six months after joining the Ticket to Life project, the Scout Association of Mongolia (SAM) is now forming its second Scout Troop to engage more and more children into Scouting.

Scouts in Mongolia bring Scouting closer to community

Using seed capital from the funds of the association, the Scout Association of Mongolia (SAM) has built a Scout community centre in Bayangol within the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, to bring Scouting closer to the community.

ACCRA – On World Environment Day, 5 June 2009, twelve Rovers from various tertiary institutions in Ghana took an initiative to celebrate World Environment Day in their own way. These Rovers financed and organised a service project by themselves after gaining permission from the National Headquarters.

U Fund supports the fight against HIV in Kenya

NAIROBI - From 28 May to 2 June 2009, Langata Scouts (Kenya Scouts Association) held a Training of Trainers workshop on HIV and AIDS at Rowallan Scout Camp thanks to the support of the U Fund. Key topics covered included: discovery of self, developing healthy relationships, understanding sex and sexuality, decision making, basic facts on HIV and AIDS, risk and risk assessment, prevention and risk reduction, stigma and discrimination, STIs, communication, problem solving and conflict resolution and drug and substance abuse.

ARO marks World Environment Day 2009

NAIROBI – On Friday, 5 June 2009, the Africa Regional Office (ARO) marked the World Environment Day by planting trees at Ayany Primary School. These trees were planted in an attempt to upgrade the Africa Scout Garden that was launched on Africa Scout Day 2009.

The regional team in charge of the Committee NSO Visit (CNV) had a highly productive meeting with the key leaders of the Scout Association of Japan (SAJ) from 1st to 3rd June 2009.

Kandersteg: new accommodation building opened on May 30

On Saturday 30th of May 2009 the Kander-Lodge, the new accommodation building, was opened by Mark Knippenberg, the KISC Director, together with KISC-staff from all Scout Regions in the World.

There where speeches from Marc Lombard, president of the Foundation, Thijs Stoffer, president of the Association and Luc Panissod, Secretary General of the World Organisation of the Scout movement (WOSM) who said "For World Scouting, Kandersteg is a laboratory, a permanent think tank as well as a permanent jamboree. It is important that we follow up in this relationship which is so natural... and we have to make it vital, as the energy brought by the place brings so much to the Movement".

In a message to the attendees, Chairman Rick Cronk stated : "No doubt that these new facilities will provide even greater opportunities for more young people to enjoy the beauty of Scouting".

SCOUTS New Zealand launch new branded web site

SCOUTS New Zealand, the new name of the Scout Association in New Zealand, have recently launched their new web site which has been completely rebranded with their new logo. SCOUTS New Zealand is now their official new logo.

Theme: Give girls a chance, end child labour

The World Day Against Child Labour will be celebrated on 12 June 2009. The World Day this year marks the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the landmark ILO Convention No. 182, which addresses the need for action to tackle the worst forms of child labour.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) share a common commitment to pursuing social justice and peace, empowering young people through human rights-based educational programmes and promoting the social dimension of globalisation. This long-standing partnership was recently strengthened through a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) extending our cooperation in the fight against child labour, earlier this year.

Scouts plant 65,000 trees with UNEP for World Environment Day

5th June 2009. On World Environment Day, Scouts have again demonstrated their commitment to working together to take positive action for the environment. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) have partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to encourage Scouts to take action in their local community.

UNEP have provided support to WOSM with a grant of $US100,000 that is being used to plant more than 65,000 trees spread across 10 National Scout Organizations to celebrate World Environment Day. Scouts will plant and continue to nurture these trees so that they can have an ongoing benefit for the environment. Participating countries include Mexico, the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, India, Brazil, Hungary, Ethiopia, South Africa and Lebanon.

Scouts feature in Clean Up the World 2008 Report

The World Organization of the Scout Movement and Clean Up the World are pleased to share with you the 2008 Clean Up the World Activity Report launched today, the 5th of June, in line with World Environment Day. Scouts feature heavily in this report which shows the active participation from Scouts throughout the world.

The Allies Partnership of 2008 between WOSM and Clean Up the World has helped to showcase some of the local level environmental activities that Scouts have been involved in since the inception of the Clean Up the World campaign over the past 16 years and other Scout groups that have joined for the first time last year.
