In a wonderful natural conservationa area, the 3rd SCENES Seminar started on Sunday 29th of September 2013 in one of the first SCNESE centres ”Campo Escuela Nacional Iztarú” few kilometres away from the Capital city “San Jose” of Costa Rica. The World Organization of the Scout Movement in collaboration with Asociación de Guías y Scouts de Costa Rica is organizing this Seminar from 29th September to 4th October 2013. There are 34 participants from 11 countries (Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Brazil, Denmark, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Mexico, Switzerland (UK), Taiwan). 8 accredited and 5 potential SCENES centres.
The aim of the seminar is to bring together representatives of existing and potential SCENES Centers (Scout Centers of Excellence for Nature and Environment), the SCENES Network and people interested in supporting the development of Scouting and the environment, particularly through SCENES Centers. The purpose of the seminar is to strengthen the SCENES Centers and SCENES Network and explore how to continue to advance SCENES as part of the World Scout Environment Programme. The seminar is designed to be able to support potential new SCENES Centers to learn from existing centers. This will be achieved through the following objectives for the event:
There are new elements in this 3rd seminar such as sessions on how to integrate all work of SCENES in Environemnt Education in line with the Scouts of the World Awrad Programme and Messangers of Peace initiative. The Solar Energy solutions in the Scout Education Programme is one of the popular new elements in the programme of the semninar thanks to our partners, Solafrica.com and Greenpeace Youth Centres.
The Opening ceremony was honored by the presence of the board members of the Scouts and Giudes of Costa Rica in addition to the Chairman of the Interamerican Scout Region, Mr. Leonardo Morales. The participants had a great international evening where they presented their own cultre, food, attires and dances. The seminar is so far enjoying a very high level of interactivity in a very engaging atmosphere thanks to the efforts of the hosts and organisers.
