As part of the implementation of the 2nd strategic priority of the Eurasia Regional Strategy Action plan (2010-2013), “Better Scouting for more young people: an attractive youth programme and membership growth”, the Scout Center “Krasnokamenka” located in Crimea, Ukraine hosted an “Excelscout 2012” training course from 9 till 14 October 2012 for Rover Scouts of NSOs in the Eurasia Scout Region. The motto of the training course was “Plan your Way, play your Game“. 27 rovers and 3 young Excel trainers coming from 9 NSOs of the Eurasia Scout Region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine) participated in the event.
During the training course, participants planned their ‘Game’ in Scouting, shared their experiences, obtained new knowledge from the trainers and developed unique Rover projects in order to overcome challenging obstacles together and, while doing all this, they had the pleasure of effectively communicating with each other.
Preparations was carried out for several months by the World Scout Bureau Eurasia Regional Office staff and volunteers from NSOs in the Region. The trainers and facilitators of the course based their preparations and planning for the event on experiences and learning from last year’s “Excelscout 2011 – Reload” Rover training course, activities and Scout events from Eurasia and other Scouting Regions, as well as current trends and innovations from across the world, in order to provide an exciting programme to the young participants.
The course included activities such as debates, discussions and the development of new projects. The programme was quite intense and Rovers were presented with a challenge, but the smile of friends and support from leaders and trainers made for an inspiring atmosphere that prevailed at the Scout Centre "Krasnokamenka" during the entire course.
An international evening was organised where participants were able to show their creativity to present their culture and way of life. Evening programmes provided an opportunity for participants to communicate with each other in an informal setting, to share experiences and agree on future joint initiatives and meetings. Apart from the above, the training course included lectures from experts and a day hike.
Although the training was fast paced throughout and lots of them found it unusual and tedious, the main goal - the idea that Scouts together can change the world - had been achieved. Going through the rigours of the training, and coming out with flying colours, the participant Rover Scouts strongly felt that they were now even more committed and ready to help contribute to the Vision of Scouting, that of creating a better world. This was indeed the objective of the training course, to inspire Rover Scouts to go out there and help contribute to the global Vision of Scouting.
To continue the joint work and to help build their projects, the participants joined the “Excelscout” Facebook group, where they joined the participants of previous Excelscout trainings.
Eurasia Scout Region thanks all volunteers: trainers, experts, moderators and facilitators for their inputs and contributions that made Excelscout 2012 training a big success.
