Bangladesh hosts three Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Events

7th Dec 2012

ovember 2012 saw three high profile Regional Scout Events with Scouts, Trainers and top Leaders of National Scout Organizations from all over the Asia-Pacific Scout Region coming together to Bangladesh. The Events gave Bangladesh Scouts a fantastic thrust forward, lifting the profile of Scouting in the country and giving the several volunteers and professional staff from around the country an opportunity to showcase their competencies, skills and experience in successfully organising the Asia-Pacific Regional Events.

Action began early in the month, when the long awaited auditorium situated on the premises of the Bangladesh Scouts National Training Centre in Mouchak was inaugurated on 10 November. The auditorium has been named after Mr Manzoor Ul Karim, the former Chief National Commissioner and President of Bangladesh Scouts to recognize his outstanding contribution to the development of Scouting in Bangladesh. The Training Centre was host to the first of the Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Events, the APR Course for Leader Trainers, which was held from 15 to 21 November. 49 participants from 15 countries in the APR came together for this highest level Training course available for Scout Leaders.

The 7th APR Scout Youth Forum was held from 17 to 21 November 2012 at BRAC Centre for Development and Management in the town of Savar, which is 25 km from Dhaka. The theme of the Youth Forum was ‘Scouting Bridging the Gap’ and was attended by 71 boys and girls from 24 countries. Mr Shafayatul Islam Khan from Bangladesh Scouts was the Youth Forum Director. Mr. Md Abdul Karim, the President of Bangladesh Scouts, was present at the opening ceremony.

The 24th APR Conference was held from 24 to 29 November at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), in Dhaka.

Applauding the efforts of Bangladesh Scouts, Mr. Abdullah Rasheed, Regional Director of the World Scout Bureau, Asia-Pacific Region, said during the closing ceremony that the humble and modest responses of ‘we will try’ (to do our best) for all organisational requests sent to Bangladesh Scouts later “turned out to be a series of (positive) surprises, making the Conference and each day at the Conference highly professional, creative (and) hospitable, giving everyone a special memory of Scouting experience(s) and of Bangladesh (the country).” This will be the last Regional Conference in the role of the Regional Director for Mr. Rasheed who will retire in the middle of 2013.
