As is now public knowledge, the Scout Association of Mexico, in consultation with the Interamerican Scout Committee and with its support, has postponed the 13th Panamerican Scout Jamboree that was scheduled to be held from 26 December 2009 and 2 January 2010 in Toluca, Mexico. A new date is now being sought.
Accordingly, we find ourselves obliged us to make a decision on the environmental projects competition convoked on the occasion of the Jamboree, the winner of which was to be announced today.
As of the deadline on 30 August 2009, a total of 30 projects had been entered for the competition. Young people from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru responded to the invitation and presented enterprising projects, sharing their experience and work with us. First of all, we would like to congratulate each and every one of them for their valuable contribution to protecting the environment and their enthusiastic participation in this regional initiative.
In view of the above, the selection of the winner has been postponed until further announcement, on the understanding that the new date could affect the participation of some of the individuals, patrols or teams that entered their projects.
As soon as a new date is set for the Panamerican Scout Jamboree, the office will resume and complete the process of selecting the winner of the competition and report to all those concerned and to the National Scout Organizations.
No new information is required regarding the projects that were entered within the deadline. This is simply a change of date arising from the change of date of the Jamboree. New information will be reported as it becomes available.
As always, we are at your disposal for any information you may need and for enquiries in this connection.
