William's weekend for Backpack Buddies

21st Mar 2013

After collecting food instead of presents at his birthday party to donate to BackPack Buddies, he became worried as to how the kids without stable food sources would make it through spring break. William a 7 year old Cub Scout had his parents take him to a local restaurant where he talked the owner into giving away free cheese dip for donations over a 3 day period. He then convinvced a local grocery store to allow him to sit outside and solicit food donations over a weekend. William was successful in collecting over 1400 pounds of food and $300 in cash to support the Back Pack buddies Program at his school. Because of his donations the school was able to send extra food home the weeks leading up to spring break as well as a double portion over spring break. In addition, the school was able to add 2 additional students to the program because of the abundance of food.
