1st KwaSanti Pack and Troop, consists of parents, Scouts, Cubs and community members from 1stKwaSanti Pack and Troop located in KwaManyoba - Ward 2 in Highflats, KwaZulu-Natal.
We made doormats, wagons, dolls, belts, handbags, necklaces and attires. The motive behind the project was for Cubs and Troops to gain new recycling skills and simultaneously to produce good results, creative items and financial income. Our Group made and sold the recycled art and handcraft. This inspired some community members to continue developing their skills and to start their own businesses.
We purchase materials such as glue, flour, vanish, pritt, and selotape. To start with, the waste we collected was separated, cartons and paper were put together in a 65 litre dustbin and water was added to make a mixture. The mixture was left to soak for two weeks, after the waiting period ten bars of grated sunlight soap were added to the mixture. It was all mixed together to make paper dough, once the dough started forming it was rubbed on the brick blocks until fine. And using cardboard the flour and glue was used to make shoes. We kneaded the dough until it was ready to make different shapes. When the process was complete the dough was used make, vases, cups, trays, snakes (black mamba), ducks and crocodiles. When the final products were finished the we organized a jumble sale.
