The stage is set for the 2nd Africa Scout Summit

15th Apr 2009

NAIROBI, 15 April 2009 – Members of the Africa Regional Scout Committee are in Nairobi, Kenya for the 2nd Africa Scout Summit that will be held at the KCB Leadership Centre in Nairobi from 16 to 20 april 2009. The Summit will bring together two key leaders from each of the NSOs in the Region, plus NGOs and partners. The new WOSM’s Secretary General Mr. Luc Panissod and WOSM’s Desk Officer for Africa, Ms. Anne Whiteford will offer support to the event.

By the end of the Summit it is expected, among other objectives, that the participants will have identified the strengths and weaknesses of NSOs (National Scout Organizations) in the Region with a view to construct a new realistic vision to meet the needs of Scouting in Africa

Representatives from NSOs in other parts of the world who are interested in working in partnership with the Africa Scout Region and NSOs in the Region will also attend the event. This participation will be possible, thanks to funding from the Eric Frank Fund for Leadership Development and the Hirose Fund of the Scout Association of Japan.

The first summit held in the Africa Scout Region took place in Mafeking in May 2001. The purpose of this summit was to develop a Ten Year plan for the Africa Region. This Ten Year Development Plan was subsequently adopted at the Africa Scout Conference in Gabon in 2001. The Summit brought together 42 participants from 16 countries in Africa.
