Southern Zone holds its 36th zonal conference

LILONGWE, May 1, 2009 — African NSOs (National Scout Organizations) from the Southern Zone today started their zonal conference, at the Korea Garden Lodge in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Malawian Principal Secretary (P.S.) in the Ministry for Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Alex Mseka, officially opened the event, which will end on May 3, 2009. Also at the opening ceremony was Dr. Mary Shawa, Principal Secretary, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition; a representative of the Embassy of Japan; executives from the UK-Africa Initiative, among others.

Winston Adams, the Ag. Regional Director for Africa, was also in attendance, accompanied by Chris Mbanga, the Vice-Chair of the Africa Scout Committee and by Euloge Ishimwe, the Head of Communications at Africa Regional Office.

Among others, the conference will address issues of governance and youth involvement. In addition, there will be a day-long communication workshop facilitated by Euloge Ishimwe. At the end of the conference, a new Zonal Committee will be elected.
