”Successful Planning” is the future of Successful NSOs

The Scout Center “Krasnokamenka” located in Crimea, Ukraine hosted an educational seminar on “Successful Planning” taking place from 7th till 10th of June, 2012.

As a follow-up to the Eurasia Regional Strategic and Action plan elaborated for the period of 2010-2013, the assessment of the needs identified by Eurasia NSOs in conjunction with the results of the Seminar on Management and Organizational Development, revealed the need of further capacity building of the NSO leadership. Eurasia Regional Committee and the Eurasia Regional Office organized a joint Seminar “Successful planning” on planning, monitoring & evaluation, administrative issues” attended by key management representatives of the NSOs.

Leaders of the 9 Eurasia Region NSOs participated in the seminar: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Rustam Karimov, Founder of Scout Movement in Tajikistan attended the Seminar as the invited guest.

The seminar was led by local regional and Invited professionals of the World Scout Bureau - Jean-Bernard Rebord, Director, Finance, Administration&Personel; Devid Berg, Director, Strategic Planning, Monitoring&Evaluation; Iurie Emilian, Director, Eurasia Regional Office; Alexandra Tulina, Director, Youth Programme and Tatyana Smykovska, Financial Assistant, Regional Coordinator of MoP Initiative.

Despite the fact that the working language of the seminar was English, high quality simultaneous translation enabled effective participation of NSO representatives that discussed burning topics requiring their future attention and decisions.

Following sessions were covered over the course of the seminar sessions:

  • Presentations of NSOs: Real situation and main challenges in planning process within NSOs.
  • Intro. WOSM Strategy.
  • Planning, monitoring & evaluation processes in NSOs
  • How to plan a long term Strategy for the NSO
  • Practical workshop on Strategy planning in the NSO.
  • Financial issues in the NSO (budgeting)
  • Management of human resources in the NSO
  • One-year Action Plan of the NSO
  • Development and fulfilment of one year Action plan
  • NSO Ideas and suggestion for the Eurasia Regional Strategy and Action Plan 2013-2016.
  • MoP Initiative and Global Support programme.

Findings of the seminar were cross cutting to all Eurasia NSOs. The actuality of the discussed subjects and the challenges faced by national organizations were discussed even during the breaks in-between the working sessions. Collaborative solutions were sought by all participant leaders and individual as well as group consultancies were provided by the professionals of Regional and World offices. ”There is a solution for every question, what matters is to pose a question properly” – was the main highlight of the seminar.
