“It is high time for NSOs to develop a risk management policy to strengthen public confidence in what we do and how we do it.”
This was the statement of APR Management Sub-Committee Chairman Janaprith Fernando at the opening of the Asia-Pacific Sub-Regional Risk Management Workshop in Mouchak, Bangladesh from 26th to 29th January 2012, a gathering of 40 Scout leaders from eight countries.
Fernando shared that courage is the main quality of leadership, no matter where it is exercised, and it usually implies some risk specially in new undertakings.
Participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Malaysia, Nepal and Sri Lanka look forward to gaining more knowledge and skills on risk management that could be adapted elsewhere.
Major topics to be covered are Safe from Harm Environment, NSO responsibilities on safety and security and risk management process. At the and end of the workshop, participants will draft a generic national risk management policy.
Bangladesh Scouts advisor and former Regional Scout Committee Chairman Mr Mohammad Abu Hena inaugurated the workshop, with Chief National Commissioner Md. Abul Kalam Azad and Vice President and former World Scout Committee Vice-Chairman Mr Habibul Alam.
Directing the workshop is Management Sub-Committee member and International Commissioner Mr. Md. Mozammal Haque Khan, co-directed by World Scout Bureau Asia-Pacific Director, Development Support and Finance S. Prassanna Shrivastava with resource persons Jamal Harim Abdullah (Malaysia), Prof. Mozahed Hossain, Prof. Nizamuddin Ahmed supported by an efficient team of Bangladesh Scouts.
