European Youth Forum and Commissioner Vassiliou together for a strong youth agenda
1st Jan 2010
Tine Radinja, Chairman of the European Youth Forum and a representative of European Scouting, recently met Ms Andruolla Vassiliou, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multiculturalism and Youth, to engage with her as part of a delegation from the Youth Forum on her main objectives in the field of youth.
The Youth Forum asked the Commissioner to focus on the implementation of a cross-sectoral approach to youth policy at EU level in the framework of the EU Youth Strategy and called for a stronger reference to issues important for young people in Europe 2020.
The meeting between the leadership of the platform, which gathers nearly 100 youth organisations from across Europe, and the Commissioner took place at a crucial moment - the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and the adoption of the Renewed Framework for European Co-operation in the youth field bring a host of challenges to the youth sector. The European Youth Forum is aware of them and is working to turn these challenges into successful opportunities.
The European Youth Forum is an important partner with which the European Scout Region follows various policies that affect the youth sector and enables them to be influenced together with other youth organisations in Europe. “At the beginning of the mandate for the new Commissioner, it is crucial to set up a stable dialogue and a working methodology between the biggest European Youth Platform and the Commissioner,” said Tine Radinja, President of the European Youth Forum and a Representative of European Scouting, adding that a fruitful cooperation with Ms Vassiliou is essential for a strong youth agenda for the EU.
