The 25th World Scout Jamboree came to a close today on 11 August with nearly 40,000 Scouts who were transported to the Seoul World Cup Stadium to experience the event’s Closing Ceremonies and an incredible K-Pop concert. Since departing from the SaeManGeum several days ago, Scouts have made the most of the opportunity to explore South Korea by experiencing the best of Korean culture, food, music, dance and history. We would like to acknowledge the efforts of Prime Minster Han Duck-soo, Minister Kim Hyunsook, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the Korean Government, as well as the support of International Service Team volunteers for making this Scouting reunion possible before participants depart for their home countries. We would also like to thank the Korean Scouts and Korean people for their kindness and hospitality.

Nearly 40,000 participants have now safely departed from the 25th World Scout Jamboree campsite in SaeManGeum and are being relocated to multiple sites in Seoul and the surrounding areas ahead of the expected arrival of Typhoon Khanun. The Korean Government, supported by hundreds of volunteer Scouts on the ground, facilitated the successful departure of participants ensuring that everyone left the campsite safely and securely.

“Today, Scouts have once again demonstrated true leadership, determination and teamwork in the face of adversity, putting their skills to good use during this challenging situation” - Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General, World Organization of the Scout Movement.

WOSM Statement -  06/08/2023 at 08h00

The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) continued its close collaboration with the Korea Scout Association (The Host) and the Government of Korea. WOSM noted the significant resources mobilized over the last 24 hours to improve the campsite’s facilities and services to help the participants manage the impact of the severe heatwave affecting the country.

We are monitoring the weather forecast and continue to request the Host to take the necessary measures in the event heavy rain is forecasted. We note that the Government pledged to extend support to Contingents that decide to leave the site early and enable participants to continue their Jamboree experience in other locations in Korea.

Despite the challenges, participants on the campsite and those who have now moved to other locations in Korea have demonstrated true Scouting resilience, and we will continue working with the Host to support them throughout their stay.

WOSM Statement - 04/08/2023 at 23h00

Today, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) continued to work closely with the Korean Scout Association (The Host) and the Government of Korea to mitigate heat wave risks on Jamboree operations and participants.

We have been informed that the UK Contingent has decided to leave the Jamboree camp early, allowing the Scouts to continue their Jamboree experience in Seoul until they are scheduled to travel home.

WOSM today asked the Host to consider alternative options to end the event earlier than scheduled and support the participants until they depart for their home countries. The Host decided to go ahead with the event, assuring that they will do everything possible to address the issues caused by the heat wave by adding additional resources.

We continue to call on the host and the Korean government to honor their commitments to mobilize additional financial and human resources, and to make the health and safety of the participants their top priority.

WOSM Statement - 04/08/2023 on 11h00

The 25th World Scout Jamboree is underway with more than 43,000 Scouts and volunteers from around the world experiencing the event. Over the past few days, an extreme heatwave and humidity have caused some challenging conditions for young people and volunteers taking part in the event.

To ensure the health, safety and well-being of all participants the Host is working together with World Scouting and the Korean Government to respond to the heatwave by increasing shaded areas and water around programme activities, making more air-conditioned spaces and transportation available, deploying more doctors and nurses, and increasing the availability of medical facilities and ambulances. Additional support and resources are also being deployed to assist with food distribution and cleaning services to ensure the campsite is safe, accessible and sanitary for all participants.
