1st Jan 2011

The Arab Scout Regional group for Emergency and Rescue responded on the spot to the influx of thousands of refugees and returnees from Libya as a result of the recent strive and evolution. 34 ArRO staff and scout volunteers spent 3 days in Alsaloum gate (700 Km from Cairo) at the Egyptian Libyan boarders, where thousands of refugees and returnees from different nationalities 'Africans, Asians and some Arabs' arrived are seeking shelter, food and safe passage to their homeland.

The Arab region coordinated their efforts in advance with the national authority, World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Union of Arab Doctors. The Arab Scouts Regional Office purchased, prepared, packed and dispatched hand to hand '5000 food packages, and provided the safe water supply'. The team also supported different psychosocial services for children, females and geriatrics. The scouts also provided services of charging mobile telephone for returnees to assure direct communication with their families at home. The Egyptian media covered the campaign properly and reflected the current positive role and credibility and acceptability of the scouts in community preparedness, first aid and disaster management. The Arab scouts are doing a great job in all cities of Libya and in the Libyan Egyptian and Libyan Tunisian borders
