Some National Scout Organizations have, successfully, proactively addressed marginalized society through working within their communities. Brazil and Mexico are two such countries which have developed Scouting.
Within Brazil Scout leaders have traveled deep into the Amazon to work with indigenous people to allow them access to Scouting. They make this sustainable through providing leader training so that once they have returned to the cities Scouting continues there.
Whist in Mexico a national approach is being taken through allowing young people from deprived and vulnerable areas to take part in Scouting. 'READY FOR LIFE' is a program which does more than Scouting, it gives young people the opportunity to learn new skills both practical and academic.
Our international team felt like this afternoon's time could have been better used. Although this is not a complaint, we feel we did not achieve anything from 3.30 onward. This afternoons session seemed to be more about meeting candidates and not the title given to the workshop.
An idea on how to improve this would be that the project fair would have been a candidate fair visiting each candidate and more knowledgeable people giving National Scout Organization ideas so we can learn from experts. The sessions felt unrealistic and had a lack of objective due to the small amount of time given. #youthwall
