72h-action: renovations at local youth centre

14th Jul 2014

72 hours to make the world a better place - little by little
This social effort goes not only to show how children to young adults get involved in their community, it's mainly about improving peoples' lives. We want to advertise how church groups bring about change and betterment - and how much fun it is!

We joined over 4000 groups of youth volunteers in a 72h-weekend of working for our local communities.
Our assignment was chosen for us and only disclosed immediately the night before. We were to renovate the environs of a open-door youth centre and furnish two new containers recently errected on the site with a wooden floor, wallpapers and wallpaint, aswell as decoration and design.
We were able to collect donations and cut generous deals with suppliers, since only a a basic budget was available. Also, we brought in befriended craftsmen to give advice and instructions on our proceedings.
To make better use of the short time at hand, we camped out on-site and were helped by staff and regulars of the youth centre alike. Over 30 scouts and ministrants from our parish were involved during the course of the project.
The weekend's work was celebrated in together with groups from all over the city on sunday evening with a sponsored BBQ and video mesages from national representatives.
